Almost. A big thanks to Doug Mosurock for destroying my dreams of a respectable Eddie Murphy….comeback trail ablaze. No, I had not seen the ad for Norbit. Is Norbit a “victim” of the annual Jan./Feb. shelf cleanings? Maybe not. I don’t see a ‘2005′ date on that IMDB entry, do you? I’m on the fence. And the ad…care to see it? Should you? Should I give you an easy out? Provide you with the instant power of dismissal? Sure, here you go. Remember, this guy over here, this guy remains on the fence. LOOK AT THAT CAST!!!

Someone please introduce me to the sad but enlightened room of TV Guide (that’s who they work for, right?) writers that pop this stuff out. Access to the “info” button does not count as a formal meeting.
“The Hand”: Michael Caine, Andrea Marcovicci [1981]
A caroonist loses his hand in a car accident, but it comes back to crawl around and kill people. [1:45] [R] One and a half stars.
….not sure if any of you Doofus Wainwrights know this, but Oliver Stone wrote and directed The Hand. That would place it after the, shall we say, “different” Midnight Express (screenplay only), and before Scarface (which he claims to have kicked cocaine in the process of writing….while in France). The Hand is a coke problem up on the fucking screen, people.

It looks awful. But I will applaud it. Dreamgirls MAY, just MAY, be the gateway to an autumnal Eddie Murphy that doesn’t hurt my feelings with embarrassing moves. Were you aware of my intense respect for Eddie Murphy? My uber-fandom? How perfect would he now be for an understated, underdog, under-everything role in an offbeat little crime movie (not that we need another one of those)? A quiet drama? He can do it. You’ve seen it: HE CAN DO ANYTHING. Let the grooming begin. And where is the book? The man needs a good 700-page biography treatment to overshadow hack jobs like this. I am an Eddie Murphy apologist.
