Just Farr A Laugh Release Party at Goner Records was a success!! Started out with a little history, gave a slide show (w/commentary) representing many of the drawings and several of the photo shoots, then pulled a Radiohead on the crowd. Some of the attendees were familiar with JFAL, so I let them pick the calls to be played, and followed each with a brief back story. We listened to:

“Bleachy and the .99 Big Bufords”

“Everyone Loves a Good Bootleg Garfield the Cat”

“T-Mobile Employees F*ck Off on the Clock”

“Man With a Confusing Array of Things for Sale”

“Attitudes”

…and maybe I’m forgetting one. I’ll check the tape. Two things were particularly amazing: Eric Friedl (or “Oblivian” to some and half-owner of Goner) drove to Rally’s and purchased FORTY steaming-hot Big Bufords w/ fries, assembled the pile on a platter, and only THREE were left at the end of the event! Amazing! AND….the attendees (50 - 60 people crowded into the store) were perfectly attentive during the calls and laughed heartily at ALL of the funny spots. It was as if I was playing the CD’s for two people in my living room. Pre-recorded prank calls pulled off live!! I must add that there was a conservative amount of free beer and Capri Sun on hand. I was asked to autograph a couple of copies and a handful of promo posters. 100% of the event was caught on camera and will be transferred this week. Especially funny blocks will be edited for YouTube. Thanks to everyone at Goner Records (Eric, Zac, and John), Geoffrey Brent Shrewsbury, and all that came out!!

The most accurate description of what one can expect.

Ah…my life of clarifying. While I did do the Best Show calls, I know that Jeff and I were bouncing this character off one another during that time, and once the call (on the CD) came around, Jeff performed it (and came up with much of the call….I submitted some notes/points….we were in my kitchen, Memphis, a couple of years ago). I based the Best Show character on the HBO Undercover documentary, Small Town Ecstasy (if anyone knows where I can obtain a copy of this…..). If you’ve witnessed this piece of work, “Ditchweed” should ring slightly familiar.
